New symbol for "Rupee"! 




You might be thinking what this symbol mean?

This is new symbol for Indian currency "RUPEE". This have been a tough to invent the symbol from many symbols suggested by people engage in giving the symbol.But among all the designers,  D Udaya Kumar( post graduate from IIT.) was selected for his design for rupee symbol.He has been awarded Rs.2,50,000/- from Finance Ministry for his achievement.

According to D Udaya Kumar the symbol is design as such based on Indian tri color  with the lines added on the top and bottom representing the Indian flag. The symbol is primarily based on the ‘ra’ of the Devanagari script, with an attempt to incorporate the Roman script also, for international appeal.

And many more near about 3000 designs were shortlisted for the competition.The symbol was approved by Union Cabinet.It has been announced that within 3 months the rupee symbol soon will be reflect in keyboard.Vendors say they will roll out the symbol as soon as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) sets the guidelines, since it takes only a minor software change to incorporate it.

The rupee symbol not be seen in coins and notes but will be used as Unicode Standard and in the major scripts used internationally so that it can be displayed and printed with ease."Rupee" word has been used by other countries too like Nepal, Sri lanka & Pakistan.To give a new stand , India wanted to give some thing new and unique way to its currency.

The new symbol was chosen because of its design capability to be part of existing software systems. The symbol will now be used on keyboards manufactured in India. Right now, as far as we know, there is no simple way to use the new Rupee sign while creating a document.
